Early Warning: In Digital Switch-Over Year Don’t Fall Victim to Door to Door Rogues
10/01/2011
In the year when Warwickshire residents will see their television signals switched over to digital, Warwickshire County Council Trading Standards Service are warning residents not to be taken in by rogue traders who may take advantage of the switchover to sell consumers over priced or unnecessary equipment, door to door.
In the Central Television Region, covering Warwickshire and many surrounding counties, switchover from an analogue signal to a digital signal is due to begin on 30th March 2011. Over the course of the year, the existing analogue television signal will be switched off and viewers will need to convert or upgrade their TV equipment to receive digital signals and a TV service.
Not only are Trading Standards Officers concerned that rogue traders may attempt to sell residents unnecessary digital TV equipment but that some may use the opportunity to falsely claim their property requires other work doing, for example roofing or guttering work, something a rogue trader may point out if they are 'installing' a new aerial.

Alarm sales team in the area
The incidents below occured on Thursday 6th January
I have just heard from another coordinator that there is a hard sell burglar alarm salesman in the area representing a firm called ITS (http://www.its-home-security.co.uk/?).
This is their current special offer!
There are far better deals out there and if you are interested in a burglar alarm the best place to start for independent advice is the police themselves.
From the village NW page:
Before fitting an expensive burglar alarm system always consult your local crime prevention officer for advice
BEWARE OF COLD CALLERS OFFERING LARGE DISCOUNTS!
There was also a team of door knockers in the village yesterday. The one who visited us seemed far more timid than the usual knocker and was easily deterred; there was a suggestion from one of my neighbours that he may have been drunk. Please remember that these visits are often a front to check for households that would be vulnerable to distraction burglary at a later date.
