21/08/2012 Bogus BT
Caller
A
consumer alerted Warwickshire Trading Standards Service to an unexpected phone
call from someone falsely claiming to represent BT. The bogus caller claimed to
be able to save the consumer some money on his line rental but could not tell
the consumer what plan he was currently on!
The
call may have originated from outside the UK.
Fraudsters
or high pressure sales people working for unscrupulous businesses often use the
names of large companies to try to either get the consumer to agree to a
contract they would not have otherwise chosen or simply to steal financial
information.
Never
give personal or financial information to unexpected callers!
