Trading Standards Update

19/12/2011 Thank you for your Overwhelming Support, but no more ‘Charity’ Collection Bags please

Warwickshire County Council’s Trading Standards Service is thanking residents for sending them huge numbers of dubious ‘charity’ collection bags in a recent blitz on unscrupulous collectors. Hundreds have already been sent in and Trading Standards Officers continue to receive bags full each week. Officers now have the details of around 50 different collectors operating across the County.

The collection phase of the blitz has now ended and the investigation phase is now well under way. Trading Standards Officers therefore no longer need residents to send in collection bags but would like to thank everyone who helped to get the project off to such an excellent start.

19/12/2011 Insulation Seller Southam

Warwickshire Trading Standards are warning residents in the Southam area to beware of doorstep traders offering loft insulation work door to door and using aggressive and high pressure sales tactics. The sellers are believed to be targeting households they believe will be eligible for Government grants.

Residents who have signed up have reported being unable to exercise their legal right to cancel the agreement and work not being done to the promised time-scale.

Warwickshire Trading Standards advises consumers seeking loft insulation and grant advice to visit: www.energysavingtrust.org.uk

Warwickshire residents aged 50 and over can use the County Council’s Tradeline service to obtain the details of local insulation fitters, phone: 08456 123 258.
