Mixed advice
on domestic door chains, leads to new invention
Unfortunately, but understandably, there is mixed advice as to a door chain's effectiveness. Organisations, such as Age UK recommend their use to combat bogus callers and yet some police services will advise people not to open the door, since a closed and locked door will be considerably more secure than a door held on a chain. Instead they suggest shouting through the door or calling out of an upstairs window. Read more here
