Alert for Horse Owners

See the Horsewatch BLOG for other incidents

It has come to the Safer Neighbourhood Team's attention that within the past week a local horse has been discovered to have had it's mane plaited.

This can sometimes be a sign of a future theft, as it is known that thieves will mark a horse that is to be stolen at a later date.

These can be found in ways such as:

plaiting of the mane or tail
cutting of the mane or tail
placing marks e.g. paint on it's fur
leaving an item that stands out on the stable door or gate to the field e.g. half a toilet roll

If you find any of these markings, take a photograph of it and contact Warwickshire Police on 101 and report it to our control room.

We had a couple of these incidents last year and fortunately no Horses were taken, so let's remain vigilant.

Kind Regards,

Claire Murray
